Today, you took a survey, watched a YouTube video about the Sudbury Valley School, and responded on paper in (briefly) in discussion. Your assignment for Tuesday's class is to push your thinking along a little bit with regards to your reaction to the video.
Option 1 - If you have a question you really want answered about this individual school, and it goes beyond
something so specific that the answer doesn't help us much, find the answer. When you find it, post the question,
answer, and the source of your answer as a comment to this post. Look around the school's website for the
answer:
http://www.sudval.com/
Ask someone who went there the answer. Search the web for testimonials and other resources. Also, remember
to stay curious instead of leaping in, cynical talons out, ready to rip something apart before you've really explored
it. If you read about another culture in your history class, would you be so ready to deride it after watching just
one 9-minute video about it? Or, would you keep an open mind, choosing to not judge others who don't share
your value system? WHATEVER INFORMATION YOU FIND, ON THAT SITE OR ANOTHER, PLEASE PROVIDE A LINK
TO IT IN YOUR COMMENT. (One place you might want to start is at a place that gathers info about all the
Sudbury Schools -- http://sunsetsudbury.org/faq/ -- and scroll to "How will my child get into college?")
Option 2 - Consider how you might fair at the school. (Please, for the love of Pete, don't write about how "one"
"might" do.) Could you have thrived if you started there in 1st grade? What about 6th grade? 8th grade? Why or
why not? What are the elements that you think make up your personality that cause you to think that? What
elements of your personality do you think have been built within our system that wouldn't be there in that school?
Consider both the good and the bad. Write-up your ideas in a comment to this post.
Option 3 - Here is the video about the Sudbury Valley School we watched today:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awOAmTaZ4XI&. You could watch it again, but I'm putting it in there because
of the links along the right-hand side that come up when you look at it in YouTube. Explore some of those and
bring what you learned there to this discussion. Write-up what you find in a comment to this post.
Option 4 - Bring something else to our discussion. Don't just bring in anything. Bring in what you think is most
important for us to consider, provide that information and a link, and then explain it. Write-up your ideas in a
comment to this post.
