According to official NSHS 9th grade curriculum, by the end of freshman year students should be able to identify the meaning of and correctly use 200 new words. We’ll study about 50 per term, and almost all of them will come from the texts we read. The goal is for you to understand what they mean when you read them and to have you be able to use them in your writing if necessary.
When tested, you will need to know the dictionary meaning of the word, the part of speech, and how to use it in a sentence. You will be asked to answer multiple-choice questions and to use certain words in sentence form.
