For homework Thursday, you read “Mrs. Kelly’s Monster.” For Monday, read “The Annotated Monster.” As a Class Blog entry, take some time to consider notations on “Mrs. Kelly’s Monster.” You can use as many as you want, but you need to do at least the following;
a) expand on two of the notes you made on the story for Thursday. Quote from the text, and then discuss what you noticed about it and why. What’s working? What isn’t? What’s the value of this writer-ly move? Or what problem does Franklin create here for you?
b) respond to two of Franklin’s annotations. Quote from them, then discuss why you agree or disagree, or what questions/issues come up for you. Is there a practical application to your own writing that comes up from Franklin’s notes?
Remember: while it is sometimes okay to comment on content, we’re reading features to understand style and craftspersonship.
